Di Bidang publik terdapat cukup banyak konvensi yang menyangkut berbagai aspek :
Aspek keselamatan :
1. SOLAS 1960, Konvensi ini telah beberapa kali di rubah dan terakhir dengan 1983 amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS 74), yang disetujui oleh the Maritime Safety Committee of IMO pada sidangnya yang ke 48 (Juni 1983).
2. International Convention on Load Line 1966 dan Protocol 1988.
3. International Convention on Tonnage Measurements of Ships 1969.
4. Convention on the International Regulation for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (Colreg.1972).
5. International Convention on Standard of Training , Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978 (STCW 1978).
6. International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code).
7. International Safety Management (ISM).
8. Port State Control (PSC).
9. International Ships and Port Facilities Security Code (ISPS Code)
Kesejahteraan Awak Kapal :
1. ILO Maritime Convention, No 147 , Convention Concerning Minimum Standard In Merchant ship’s 1976, mulai berlaku 28 November 1981, berikut beberapa ILO Convention sebagai appendix dari Convention 147 tersebut.
2. Protocol of 1996 to the Merchant Shipping (Minimum standards) ILO Convention of 29 October 1976 ( Geneva 22 October 1996)
Bidang Pencegahan dan Penanggulangan Pencemaran Lingkungan laut :
1. United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, khususnya bab II Protection and Reservation of the Marine Environment.
